Exterior building signs are mounted on the facade, above the entrance or on a prominent wall. The right format depends on the viewing distance and the wall material:

- Light boxes for a larger illuminated panel or a logo with fine details.
- 3D metal letters for a clean, non-lit architectural look.

The choice between face-lit, halo-lit and non-lit depends on the wall texture, the viewing distance and the brand style. A dark brick wall often looks best with halo lighting; a light wall may need a face-lit sign for contrast.
Monument signs and pylon signs
Monument signs are low-profile structures at the entrance, often made from metal, stone or composite panels. Pylon signs are taller, pole-mounted signs for roadsides and commercial parks.
